When the throttle is closed rapidly like when you are doing hard driving ,your airlow to your turbo is quickly reduced,which will cause flow instability and PSI fluctuation. A VW measures the air and expects the air to be there. Our cars are not shaped like boxes that is why we don't think in one. If you're going to be running high boost and have a aftermarket internal or external wastegate or modified turbo,then you just might want to use one.
